Superior, NE – KaLee Fanning of Brodstone Healthcare was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

KaLee is originally from Oak, Nebraska, and received her nursing degree from Western Nebraska Community College. Prior to her current role, she worked as a CNA at Good Samaritan Society before returning to Superior to work as an LPN at Brodstone Healthcare.

KaLee’s nomination read, “I would like to nominate KaLee Fanning for the DAISY Award! Even though I was a patient of hers for only two days, she made a positive impression on me and was very professional. She is an excellent nurse. She was very kind and caring and tried to make me as comfortable as possible as I was in severe back pain. She and the aides working alongside her were careful when helping me get up and down. I was always happy to see her when she came into my room. Thank you, KaLee, for taking such good care of me.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little-known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, Doctor of Humane Letters (h.c) and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, "When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Brodstone Healthcare are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

Chief Nursing Officer Candice Thompson added, “It is such an honor to be able to recognize KaLee as our DAISY Award winner this year. KaLee is truly an extraordinary nurse. Her compassion is evident in every patient interaction and her positive attitude is infectious. I feel very fortunate to have such an excellent nurse providing care to our patients here at Brodstone”.
