Superior, NE  - In an effort to reduce Nebraska’s high maternal mortality rate, Brodstone Healthcare has launched a new Postpartum Alert program. The initiative uses a distinctive teal wristband to help healthcare providers quickly identify and provide specialized care to new mothers in the six weeks following childbirth.
This simple visual cue ensures that no matter where a new mother seeks care, from a routine visit to an emergency situation, staff will immediately be aware of their postpartum status. This can be lifesaving, as many postpartum complications occur after a patient has been discharged from the hospital.
"We want to do everything we can to keep our moms safe," said Candice Thompson, Chief Nursing Officer at Brodstone Healthcare. "The teal wristband is a simple but effective way to ensure our entire team is aware of a patient's postpartum status. We hope this small change can make a big difference in keeping our moms healthy."
Brodstone Healthcare is encouraging all new mothers to wear their wristband and be proactive about their health. They should attend follow-up appointments and contact their provider or seek immediate emergency care for serious warning signs like chest pain, seizures, or thoughts of self-harm.
